Year-End Thoughts on AI & Quantum Computing

Random thoughts closing out an exciting year for AI & Quantum Computing.

  • Large Language Models (LLMs) are not AI.
    • LLMs are a component of AI.
      • Much of intelligence as it interacts with the real world is not reasoning of the sort that language manipulates, but rather, reaction to simuli.
      • The fascination with LLMs will yield to a more balanced approach that takes into account all the infrastructure of intelligence.
  • Quantum Computing is making amazing strides
    • In 3 - 5 years we will have genuinely useful commercially available devices which we may still need to access in the cloud.
    • Look for convergence of Quantum Computing with LLMs.
      • LLMs are trigonometric in nature.
        • Digital binary computers, including GPUs, are arithmetic engines.
        • Quantum Computers are trigonometry engines.
